Le droit international est sans équivoque

International law is unequivocal

A common petition calling for the European Union (EU) and its member states to “put an end to their complicity in the illegal occupation” of Western Sahara by Morocco, was launched by the European Association of Lawyers for Democracy and Human Rights in the World (ELDH) and the Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders in Western Sahara (CODESA). “International law is unequivocal: the Sahrawi people have the right to self -determination and sovereignty over their land and their resources,” recall European lawyers in their petition, adding that “the time has come” so that Europe is held “alongside a free and self -determinated Western Sahara”.

As such, they urge the EU and its member states to enforce international law by demanding “a democratic solution based on a referendum, as guaranteed by the 1991 cease-fire agreement” and to reject “Moroccan pretensions of sovereignty”. They point out, in this regard, that the unilateral partition or the pseudo “Autonomy plan”, are all “contrary to the fundamental right of the Sahrawi people to self -determination”, arguing for the application of CJEU stops by ceasing any economic activity involving the resources of the occupied Western Sahara and by ensuring the respect of legality by European companies and governments.
On the other hand, the collective of associations of the Sahrawi community in France and the platform for solidarity with the Sahrawi people have reaffirmed their attachment to the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, calling to put an end to the looting of natural resources of Western Sahara and the immediate release of political prisoners held in the jails of the Moroccan occupation.

This position was expressed during the participation of the collective and the platform in the activities of the 80th edition of the Fête de l’Humanité, recently organized in Brétigny-sur-Orge, in the Paris region, said the Sahraouie news agency (SPS) on Sunday. Through their participation in the Festival of Humanity, the Sahrawi organizations and their supporters underlined their unwavering attachment to the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people in self -determination, as the only legitimate framework for the establishment of lasting peace. Finally, the Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights defenders in Western Sahara (Codesa) announced that it had presented in the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (HCDH) in Geneva a detailed presentation of war crimes and crimes against humanity, as well as the many other continuous human rights violations committed by Morocco in the occupied Sahraouis territories.
