The decision of the French government to recognize the said autonomy plan on the territory of Western Sahara, in other words the support for the Moroccan colonial occupation of this territory, has caused the National Liberation Front (FLN) party to react. In a statement published this Friday, the party expressed “its denunciation and condemnation of the decision of the French government regarding the recognition of the said autonomy plan on the territory of Western Sahara under the alleged Moroccan authority”, adding that this decision was “a new provocation that demonstrates that the former colonizer and the current occupier of the Sahrawi territories have established a dangerous alliance that must be denounced, especially since France is fully aware that the cause of Western Sahara is a question of decolonization.”
The FLN explains that “the decision expressed by the French State goes against international legality, because the people of Western Sahara do not belong to Morocco to be granted autonomy.” It recalls that this proposal “remained a dead letter, given that all regional and continental organizations, in addition to the UN, do not recognize any Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara,” and therefore, “the French position is part of France’s obstruction of the efforts of the international community in the implementation of international legality.” After reiterating its support for the Polisario Front in “its heroic and just struggle to impose its sovereignty over all Sahrawi territories,” the FLN called, in its statement, to “allow the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and independence.”
The party also recalled that “any delay in achieving this objective prolongs the duration of this crisis and all its repercussions on the security and stability of the region”, especially since it “mortgages an entire people thirsting for a confiscated freedom, despite all the resolutions of the UN General Assembly relating to it”. As a reminder, a few days ago, the French authorities officially communicated this decision to the Algerian authorities. On Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community warned that the Algerian Government “will draw all the consequences that flow from this French decision” and for which the French government “assumes sole full and entire responsibility”. For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “the colonial powers, old and new, know how to recognize each other, understand each other and lend each other helping hands”.
