M Bordj Bou Arreridj is crowned champion of Algeria. The Bordjians offered themselves the first title in their history thanks to the victory snatched against ES Aïn Touta (25-24), this Friday at the Harcha Hassen hall (Algiers), on the occasion of the 6th and penultimate day of the Excellence Division play-off tournament.
It’s simply historic. Just two seasons after joining the national handball elite, the MBBA created a surprise and added its name to the register of champion title winners. A real feat achieved by Zaky Abada’s protégés who were masterful throughout the play-offs (4 wins, 1 draw), where they turned all the cards and predictions upside down against the championship leaders.
Thus, the guests of the Harcha room, who came en masse, witnessed a real handover between the double title holder, namely, ES Aïn Touta, and the new boss of the Excellence Division. And as there couldn’t be a better finish, the comrades of Saib Mohamed Amine, voted best player of the match, had to finish in style by snatching this 6e victory at the end of the suspense, with a narrow score of 25 to 24, even if there is still one match to play on Saturday.
A well-deserved success and consecration for this team which, with its 11 points in the ranking, can no longer be caught up in the lead. Indeed, the match between the two other contenders for the title, O El Oued and JSE Skikda ended in a draw (21-21). The play-off tournament will continue this Saturday with the progress of the 7e sleeve. A final outing whose results will have no impact, because the champion is now known, except to determine who will accompany the MBBA on the podium.
