Presidential activities
The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, received on Thursday at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, the mujahida Djamila Bouhired. She was born in June 1935 in Algiers. During the Algerian War (1954-1962), an activist in the National Liberation Front (FLN), she was a collaborator of the late mujahad Yacef Saâdi, head of the Autonomous Zone of Algiers.
Arrested in 1957 during the Battle of Algiers, she was one of six FLN women sentenced to death for having participated in the attacks of 1956-1957. A campaign was organized by his lawyer, Jacques Vergès, and by the writer Georges Arnaud, to protest against this conviction. She was pardoned in 1959 and released from prison following the Evian Accords (March 19, 1962).
