The process of generalizing the issuance of biometric driving licenses in all municipalities of the country was initiated on July 5 by the Ministry of the Interior. In a press release made public this Tuesday, the ministry specified that the process comes after having been limited to the seats of wilayas since 2019, then to the seats of daïras since December 2023.
Accordingly, the statement added, all municipalities in the country will be responsible for issuing biometric driving licenses, in accordance with the applicable legal conditions, whether for new license applicants or for applications for renewal of expired classic driving licenses, as well as what relates to the inclusion of new categories on the driving license.
The ministry confirmed that conventional driving licenses remain valid until their validity period expires. It is also worth noting that to date, more than 4.5 million biometric driving licenses have been issued.
