The Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, met this Friday with the vice-president of the Namibia Republic, Lucia Witpu, visiting Algeria as part of her participation in the 4th edition of the intra-African trade fair.
The interview between the two parties made it possible to deepen the consultations and to exchange views on the means of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Namibia, especially in the energy sector, especially in the hydrocarbon value chain and renewable energies, according to a ministry’s press release. The two officials welcomed the quality of relations between the two countries and affirmed their common desire to advance them to a partnership based on concrete projects and joint action programs, thus strengthening economic integration and sustainable development on the continent.
Arkab and its host also discussed the means of expanding their cooperation to the production, transport and distribution of electricity, development, exploitation and maintenance of electrical networks, as well as photovoltaic solar energy projects. The importance of the exchange of expertise and knowledge in the fields of regulation, management, legislation, training and preparation of studies related to the petroleum and gas industry has also been underlined.
In this context, Arkab highlighted the new dynamic characterizing Algeria’s relations with brothers African countries, affirming Algeria’s commitment in favor of an energy policy based on South-South partnerships and the enlargement of the presence of Sonatrach and Sonelgaz groups on the continent, in accordance with development and regional commitments of Algeria, in application of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjidjid Tebboune. He also underlined the significant contributions of Algeria to the training of African talents through its institutes specialized in the energy and mines sector.
The interviews also focused on Algerian expertise in exploration and production of hydrocarbons (upstream and downstream), development of deposits, refining, production and transport of gas, and liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as its expertise in regulations. The Minister of Energy said Algeria’s desire to support Namibia by training and transfer of expertise and technical know-how.
For her part, the vice-president of the Republic of Namibia expressed the assessment of her country for the Algerian experience in the management of the hydrocarbon sector, calling it “exemplary”. It underlined the desire of Namibia to take advantage of it to develop its oil and gas industry and increase the use of energy and its products to support its national economy. She also underlined the interest of her country to strengthen its partnerships with Algerian companies, notably Sonatrach, in order to develop the entire hydrocarbon value chain.
