The support and assistance of start-ups by Algerian Customs, in terms of facilitations granted within the framework of foreign trade operations, was highlighted by the Minister of Finance, Laaziz Faid.
Customs measures allow project leaders to expand their activities, both for the import of equipment and for export, declared the Minister of Finance, last Thursday, on the occasion of a study day on these facilitations, organized by the General Directorate of Customs (DGD), under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance and in coordination with the Ministry of the Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Microenterprises.
These facilities are of “particular importance because they are intended for a young generation that has already honored the country in many international competitions, by achieving remarkable results that have earned the congratulations of the President of the Republic, who expressed his pride in this elite, thus reiterating his commitment to support it to enable it to continue its creations in these promising projects,” added the minister.
He also stressed that the President of the Republic paid “particular attention to start-ups that have distinguished themselves in different fields”, noting that the State has made available to this category all the legislative and regulatory mechanisms to support it in expanding its projects and improving its competitiveness, through a favorable ecosystem, encouraging the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among young people.
This effort contributes to job creation and the integration of many parallel market activities into the formal sector, he argued. For his part, the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Microenterprises, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, welcomed, in his speech, the digital transition project launched by the DGD, stressing the importance of the participation of start-ups in this “ambitious project”.
Start-ups have attracted great interest in recent years thanks to “the strong political will expressed by the President of the Republic to move from an economy based on rent to an economy based on knowledge,” he said.
After recalling the tax and customs advantages enjoyed by project leaders, the minister stated that, in the coming days, the first groups of start-ups will travel to the United States, China and South Korea, as part of the international visits program approved by the President of the Republic, with the aim of allowing these companies to discover global entrepreneurship environments and expand their relationships.
The minister also stressed that “his ministerial department was working to ensure that the start-up ecosystem lives up to the aspirations of their owners, which will open up new perspectives for start-ups and for Algeria to progress further in research, development, innovation, while bringing the Algerian university closer to its economic environment.”
For his part, the Director General of Algerian Customs, Major General Abdelhafid Bakhouche, stressed that the customs corps was “an excellent support” for project leaders, start-ups and young entrepreneurs, describing the latter as a “pioneering category that must be taken advantage of to make a qualitative leap and achieve the expected economic transformation.”
In this context, he stressed that the customs services ensure that this category benefits from all customs facilities, in accordance with the guidelines of the public authorities aimed at supporting young creators and encouraging them to realize their projects on the ground.
The Director General of Algerian Customs also indicated that this meeting was intended to be an opportunity for direct dialogue and open debate in order to present the various customs facilities and the advantages granted, as well as to learn about the projects through which microenterprises can contribute to improving the performance of customs services.
The day’s work was held in the presence of the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Karim Bibi Triki, the Minister of Fisheries and Fish Production, Ahmed Badani, in addition to executives, officers and agents from the DGD, but also executives from regional directorates.
The study day was marked by interventions by executives from the DGD and the Ministry of the Knowledge Economy on the main customs facilitations and the measures decided by the State in favor of start-ups, in addition to the organization of an exhibition of a group of start-ups.
