Algeria plays a pioneering role in establishing security and stability in the Sahel region, said the head of the United States Africa Command (Africom). Army General Michael Langley spoke after the audience granted to him by the President of the Republic Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune. During his speech, the head of the United States Africa Command highlighted the “pioneering” and “pivotal” role of Algeria in the fight against terrorism and the establishment of security and stability in the Sahel region.
At the end of the audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Commander of Africom declared that “Algeria shares with the United States of America some concerns regarding the expansion of violent extremist organizations throughout Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in the Sahel region”, stressing that Algeria “has played, yesterday as today, a key role in the fight against terrorism in this region”.
After highlighting Algeria’s “pivotal” role in achieving security, stability and prosperity in the African region, the Commander of Africom said: “I thank His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the support that Algeria has given us. I expressed to His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, our perfect consideration for having given us the opportunity to visit him and exchange with him,” he said, adding that this meeting “allowed us to underline the importance of continuing discussions and building friendship” while focusing on “the means of working together to achieve greater security and strengthen bilateral relations.”
The audience took place in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army (ANP), Army General Said Chanegriha, the Director of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Boualem Boualem, and the Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of Affairs related to Defense and Security, Mr. Boumediene Benattou. As a reminder, Algeria is one of the first in the world to have succeeded (alone and without help from any brother or friend country) in defeating terrorism. Today, the Algerian security forces (all corps combined) and at their head the National People’s Army (ANP) are coveted by the great powers of this world to benefit from its experience in the fight against terrorism.
