The Ministry of National Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, launched the 2025-2026 school sports season this Sunday, during a national ceremony organized in Ouargla. The event brought together the Minister of National Education, Dr. Mohamed Seghir Saâdaoui, and the Minister of Sports, Mr. Walid Saadi, in the presence of the wali of the wilaya, the president of the Popular Council of the wilaya, members of the security commissions, parliamentarians, representatives of the High Council of Youth and civil society, as well as stakeholders in education and school sport.
The ceremony took place at the El Moudjahid-Abdelkrim-Bouzegueg sports center, a large capacity complex that can accommodate up to 3,000 spectators, and began with a presentation of the different participating school teams. The students then offered sporting and artistic demonstrations, illustrating the diversity and vitality of the activities offered as part of the national program. An institutional film was also broadcast, presenting the first edition of the school sports season, under the slogan “Our champions in our schools”, highlighting all the disciplines and competitive activities practiced in the school environment.
In his speech, the Minister of National Education recalled that this initiative reflects the particular attention of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the promotion of school sport, which he considers to be a major lever for the training of future athletes and for the overall education of students. “The school sports season aims to make the school a space open to physical and sporting activity, through the creation and running of school sports clubs and the encouragement of all students, including those with special needs, to actively participate in competitions,” said Dr Saadaoui.
The minister also affirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Education and Sport, in order to detect and supervise promising talents from an early age, and to contribute to the development of a balanced, creative and responsible generation, imbued with the values of effort, fair play and patriotism.
The Ouargla ceremony was broadcast live to all wilayas in the country, allowing local authorities to simultaneously supervise the launch of the sports season in each region. The ministers also attended several competitions organized for the occasion, including handball, women’s basketball, martial arts, motor skills games and swimming, encouraging the students and praising their dynamism and competitive spirit.
This 2025-2026 edition marks a further step in the development of national school sport, and testifies to the desire of public authorities to make the school a true laboratory of sporting talents and civic values, while consolidating the role of sport in the education and social inclusion of young people. The school sports season thus asserts itself as an essential pillar for the physical, moral and civic training of students, while contributing to the discovery and development of future champions.
