L’Egypte se joint à l’Afrique du sud dans sa plainte auprès de la CIJ contre Israël – Le Jeune Indépendant

Egypt announced this Sunday its intention to support the complaint against the Zionist state for genocide in Gaza filed by South Africa in The Hague. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The decision comes in retaliation for the launch of a ground operation by the Zionist army in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip.

The ministry’s press release emphasizes that the decision “comes in view of the worsening severity and extent of Israeli attacks against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, and the continuation of systematic genocidal practices by the Zionist army against the Palestinian people, including direct targeting of civilians and destruction of infrastructure in the Strip, and forcing Palestinians to flee.”

South Africa seized the International Court of Justice in The Hague in December 2023 to demand the opening of legal proceedings against Israel, claiming that in its aggression against Palestinian civilians in Gaza, the Jewish state had violated its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention of Genocide.

The ICJ ruled that a “risk of genocide” did exist in Gaza. The court also issued an interim order ordering Israel to ensure the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
