L’entrée en service prévue pour 2026 – Le Jeune Indépendant

The Seawater Desalination Station (SDEM) of Iflissen, located on the maritime facade of Tamda-Ouguemoun, made on an area of 15 ha, should be operational during the year 2026. This is what stands out from the various visits to the site made by the local authorities and the findings established by the elected officials of the APW.

This desalination station, with a capacity of 60,000 m3should enter into service towards the end of the first quarter of 2026. The Cosider company, responsible for the realization of the station, was reassured by the authorities of the lifting of any constraint which can delay it in the progress of the works. The authorities also used the presence of all the stakeholders in this project to announce the renewal of their commitment in order to solve the problem of the power supply of the station in question, and this once the buildings and equipment necessary for their operation will be delivered.

Moreover, the work of this megaprojet, which is part of the complementary program decided by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is currently at full speed.

It should be recalled that the Flissen SDEM will cover the drinking water needs (AEP) of eleven municipalities in the northern facade of the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou and two other borders of the wilaya of Boumerdès, including that of AFIR, or the needs to be satisfied with a population of 200,000 people. According to local managers of Cosider, once the production unit has been delivered, the water will be immediately transported to homes.

They also note that unlike other SDEMs, the downstream equipment of production already exists, with an already ready distribution network. “It is enough to start the turbines, to produce the necessary quantities of water and to inject them into the distribution network which already exists”, he indicated, before recalling that “the network in question, with its tanks, its pumping stations and its conduct, was carried out in the AEP project, initially provided for in the context of the transfer of water from the Cap Djinet desalination station.

According to the forecasts of the officials concerned, once the operational desalination station, the AEP problem for these populations, distributed through 13 municipalities (11 municipalities of Tizi Ouzou and 2 de Boumerdès), will be definitively settled. Regarding the SDEM of the commune of Aït-Chaffai (Azeffoun), which is a capacity of 300,000 m3/J, the launch of the work of its realization is scheduled soon. Once the Sidi Khelifa dam and that of Souk N’tletha delivered, the problem of drinking water will be definitively resolved for the entire population of Tizi Ouzou.
