The Spanish Ambassador delivering his speech
The ambassadors of Spain and Palestine welcomed this Wednesday in Algiers Algeria’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, particularly within the United Nations.
“My country welcomes Algeria’s commitment to the Palestinian cause and its active role within the Security Council to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza,” said the ambassador of the Iberian kingdom Fernando Moran. in a speech.
The Spanish diplomat was speaking during a reception at his residence organized jointly with his Palestinian counterpart Fisent Abou Aïta, celebrating Madrid’s recognition of the Palestinian state on May 28.
“Algeria was part of this proven effort by several countries aimed at putting an end to the drama taking place in Gaza and which challenges human conscience in more than one way,” continued Mr. Moran.
“The recognition by my country of the Palestinian State is the result of tireless efforts since the Madrid peace accords in 1991, which also resulted in the unwavering will of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to recognize Palestine and achieve the two-state solution,” he stressed, noting that this recognition enjoys the support of the majority of the Spanish people.
For his part, the Palestinian ambassador welcomed the decision of Spain as well as those of Norway, Ireland and Slovenia to recognize the Palestinian state, considering that it constitutes a historic turning point towards the consecration legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian diplomat also discussed the role of the Algerian state in favor of the Palestinian cause since its entry as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
“I add my remarks to those of my colleague Mr. Moran to underline the historic role of Algeria in favor of the Palestinian cause. Algeria’s recent actions and positions taken within the UN and other international organizations are an example of this unique and unwavering loyalty of the Algerian authorities and people towards the Palestinian question,” said Mr. Fisent Abou. Many ambassadors from Arab countries and representatives of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended this ceremony.
