Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Algeria ended Thursday on a strategic note. Three days of intense exchanges, meetings at the highest level and signing of agreements strengthened a deep bilateral partnership, anchored in history and driven by a common ambition, to raise Algerian-Vietnamese relations to the rank of model of international cooperation and solidarity between two nations linked by a long-standing friendship.
Pham Minh Chinh was received, Thursday morning, by the President of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Azouz Nasri, in a courtesy visit reflecting “the renewed dynamic of cooperation” between Algiers and Hanoi. During this meeting, Mr. Nasri underlined the “solidity of the bilateral partnership and the historical depth of Algerian-Vietnamese relations”, based on “common experiences of the fight against colonialism and the resolute defense of national sovereignty”. He also insisted on the “great political convergence” which marks the positions of the two countries within regional and international bodies.
The President of the Council of the Nation recalled that, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria attaches particular importance to the development of relations with Vietnam and the strengthening of the strategic partnership, translated concretely by the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding during this visit. He added that the Algerian Parliament, through its two chambers, is committed to expanding cooperation frameworks with the Vietnamese National Assembly, through exchanges of visits, sharing of legislative expertise and coordination in international and regional parliamentary bodies.
For his part, the Vietnamese Prime Minister highlighted “the strategic importance” of developing relations with Algeria, welcoming the convergence of the positions of the two countries on international issues. As a continuation of this visit, Mr. Pham Minh Chinh was received by the President of the National People’s Assembly (NPC), Mr. Brahim Boughali. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen parliamentary and economic cooperation. Mr. Boughali recalled that the Strategic Partnership Declaration between the two countries and the major economic reforms underway in Algeria provide a framework conducive to the development of ambitious bilateral initiatives.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister also met with the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, to discuss the promotion of joint projects and the establishment of regular technical meetings between Algerian and Vietnamese experts. Cooperation in the energy sector thus appears to be a priority axis of the strategic partnership.
Another key meeting took place with the Minister of Mojahedin and Rights Holders, Mr. Abdelmalek Tacherift, during which the two parties recalled the historical and authentic ties that unite Algeria and Vietnam, based on a common past of struggle against colonialism and resistance to oppression.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister was also received by the Secretary General of the National Liberation Front (FLN), Mr. Abdelkrim Benmbarek. On this occasion, the two parties praised the depth of relations of friendship and solidarity between the Algerian and Vietnamese people and reaffirmed their desire to elevate these relations to the rank of strategic partnership. The agreement signed between the FLN and the Vietnamese Communist Party constitutes a major milestone in the history of bilateral political relations.
At the end of this historic visit, a commemorative stele dedicated to Ho Chi Minh was inaugurated in the commune of Raïs Hamidou, in Algiers, in the presence of Mr. Pham Minh Chinh and the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Mr. Kamel Rezig. This symbolic tribute illustrates the continuity of fraternal ties and mutual respect between the two nations.
