The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, indicated, Thursday evening in Dakar, that the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is “personally attentive to the quality of Algerian-Senegalese relations”.
During his meeting with the President of the Senegalese Republic, he gave him a letter from his brother the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, he said in a statement to the press, at the end of the audience granted to him by the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye. He added that President Tebboune is particularly concerned about the content and substance of bilateral relations.
It is, moreover, attentive to the imperative of “sustained, regular and permanent political consultation” between the two countries, as long as “the challenges they face are the same in all their common areas”. Mr. Attaf added that “in the fulfillment of the great destiny of your great country, a new era is dawning. Taking into account the history of our two countries and the special relationships that they have been able to forge and maintain, sometimes despite trials and adversities, and taking into account, finally, the common aspirations that they nourish, Algeria has keen to be alongside Senegal at a time when it is beginning to write a new page in its centuries-old history. »
Furthermore, Mr. Attaf stressed that “Algeria also intends to be alongside Senegal in this phase through greater mobilization of our resources for political consultation, given the numerous challenges facing us in this area of common belonging, the Sahelo-Saharan region which is experiencing a rise in dangers such as: terrorism, international organized crime, human trafficking, economic and social setbacks and recurring political instabilities. »
Attaf recalled, on the other hand, that “over the recent period, Africa has recorded great victories”, citing in particular “the establishment of the free trade zone, membership in the G20, international unanimity which is being formed to correct historical injustice and allow our continent to have better representation in the Security Council, the ongoing African appropriation of Peacekeeping Missions. But “these great victories alone cannot hide the tragic failures. These failures concern all five regions of our continent which are insecure, destabilized and weakened by a large number of sources of crises, tensions and conflicts,” he lamented.
At the level of the international environment, he added, “its current distinctive signs are not reassuring either. There is the collective security system which is showing its limits, there is multilateralism which is running out of steam, the fabric of interdependence which is fraying and the United Nations which is seeing the confidence of peoples and States in it lost. .
