The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, highlighted, the day before yesterday Saturday, at the National People’s Assembly (APN), the sustained efforts of the Sonatrach group in terms of exploration and development which should, he said, contribute to the increase in the primary production of hydrocarbons of the order of 2%, or 3 million tonnes of oil equivalent in 2026 to reach 193 MTEP. “Marketed primary production of hydrocarbons should record, in 2026, an increase of 2% compared to 2025, to reach approximately 193 million TOE, an increase of approximately 3 million TOE, supported by the increase in all hydrocarbon products,” he indicated.
Speaking before the Finance and Budget Commission of the National People’s Assembly (APN), as part of the examination of the Finance Bill (PLF) for the 2026 financial year, chaired by Mohammed Ben Hachem, president of the commission, the minister affirmed that the public group Sonatrach is intensifying its efforts in terms of renewing the country’s hydrocarbon resources. “In the space of eight months, the public group has made 13 new discoveries in its own effort in addition to the drilling of more than 142 exploration and development wells,” he continued. Noting that the investments injected by the group from January to the end of August of this year reached 5 billion dollars intended to support the realization of the various activities in the hydrocarbon and mining sector.
These discoveries, observed Mohamed Arkab, are the fruit of the efforts deployed by the Sonatrach group, through the realization of 7,824 km2 of seismic survey in two dimensions (2D) and 7,768 km2 of seismic survey in three dimensions (3D). Stressing that these discoveries made during the first eight months of the current year will make it possible to increase Algeria’s primary production of hydrocarbons, through the renewal of reserves.
“Sonatrach also achieved more than 466,156 m
of exploration and development drilling between January and August, compared to 405,273 m during the same period of 2024, an increase of 15%, in addition to the digging of 142 wells compared to 121 wells at the end of August 2024,” added the minister. Finally, with regard to State revenues from hydrocarbon exports, the minister affirmed that these reached 31 billion dollars at the end of September 2025, while the investments injected during this same period were estimated at five (5) billion dollars, to support the realization of the various activities in the hydrocarbon and mining sector.
