Les épreuves moins stressantes – Le Jeune Indépendant


The exam to assess the achievements of 5th grade studentse primary year began this Sunday across the national territory. The tests will last until tomorrow and will cover six subjects, namely Arabic, mathematics, French, Islamic education, history as well as Tamazight for non-exempt students. The program of the tests is lighter, which makes them less stressful, in the opinion of Mohamed Benzidane, a French-speaking teacher and inspector.

Contacted by the Young Independent, Mr. Benzidane estimated that what is positive this year is that the duration of the exam has been reduced (from one month to three days), as well as the number of subjects, which makes the tests less stressful. “The student is tested on the essential subjects only, for three days, which makes the exam less stressful for the students and for their parents,” he stressed, noting that this test will not be graded and will not be will not be taken into account in the average first year pass average.

It should be noted that students have already undergone exams, at the start of each term, on secondary subjects, notably civic education, geography, scientific and technological education. Since April 14, oral assessments have also taken place for the Arabic, Amazigh and French languages. The teachers assessed the students’ skills in recitation in the same languages, but also in civic, Islamic and sports education.

The Minister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belabed, insisted on the good organization of this exam. He instructed the directors of education to take all measures for the success of these three days of tests.

“The evaluations took place in good organizational conditions, particularly in our constituency. The students were well received and supervised by their teachers,” said Mr. Benzidane, French-language primary school inspector in the wilaya of Boumerdès. He stressed that the assessment of the achievements of fifth-year students is established with the aim of assessing students’ knowledge and overcoming their shortcomings.

“The results will be mentioned in an educational notebook and a student evaluation sheet which will be given to the college but also to the student. The future teacher will be informed of his shortcomings and will thus be able to take charge of them,” explained the inspector.

He recalled that training courses have been planned in recent months for the benefit of inspectors and directors of primary schools, the aim being, according to him, to guarantee the best conditions for the organization of oral tests and common written tests in all constituencies.

It should be noted that the examination subjects for these common written tests were prepared between April 7 and 18, according to the ministerial calendar, and the establishments affected by the printing were designated before the 21st of the same month so that They will then be sent to the directors of the establishments on May 11.

The collection of results on the digital platform will be done no later than May 30 to establish, at the same time, the list of absent students. The latter will benefit from the catch-up tests on June 23 and 24. They will have their detailed educational notebook on June 27. A copy will also be sent to the student’s future CEM.

As a reminder, the end of primary cycle examination is entering its second edition with a new format, decided following broad consultations with stakeholders in the education sector, started for the 2022/2023 school year, just after the end of this review in its first edition.

However, this examination, affirmed the minister, is still being updated and remains open to new proposals for its improvement, with the aim of achieving better results in the primary cycle. According to him, the number of exam days has certainly been reduced but his approach and objectives remain the same.

The 2023/2024 edition of the exam, it should be noted, has undergone several modifications, namely the reduction in the number of exam days, i.e. only three days, the distribution of exams for the subjects concerned between common exams and others according to the subject, the adoption of continuous monitoring for the evaluation of performance skills and oral skills, the reduction and integration of certain criteria in certain skills concerned by the evaluation as well as the integration of evaluation in physical and sports education.
