Summer will be culturally engaged
The Ministry of Culture and Arts announced the postponement of all major arts festivals scheduled for this summer as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian cause. This decision, taken in response to the escalation of violence in the occupied Palestinian territories, aims to express Algeria’s unwavering support for the brotherly Palestinian people in their struggle against the Zionist occupation.
“Based on Algeria’s unwavering position in support of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle against the barbaric Zionist aggression, and as part of the efforts made by the Algerian state, headed by President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in support of the oppressed Palestinian people, the Ministry of Culture and Arts has decided to postpone all major artistic festivals that were scheduled for this summer,” the ministry’s statement said.
This decision comes in the face of “the increase in the abject massacres committed by the criminal Zionist forces and the open genocidal war against the besieged Palestinian people,” the same source said. In addition, the ministry also announced the adaptation of other cultural and intellectual activities to reflect this position of solidarity. “It was also decided to adapt other cultural and intellectual activities to this position of solidarity with the Palestinian cause and to strengthen cultural events aimed at anchoring local popular cultures and the constants of national identity,” the statement said.
Indeed, for the month of July, the ministry had already published the list of festivals that were to be organized. Among these were the National Festival of Bedouin Song in Tissemsilt from July 15 to 18, the local cultural festival of pottery in Mâatkas from the 17 to the 22 of the same month, the Festival of Music and Song in Oran from the 18 to the 22, the International Festival L’été en musique scheduled for July 26 to 29, the International Music Festival of Timgad in Batna from the 18 to the 22, and the International Festival of Djemila which was to take place from July 27 to 31. These events were all postponed in a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
As a reminder, last October, the Ministry of Culture and Arts had already decided to postpone all major arts festivals scheduled for the summer due to the increase in violence and massacres committed by Israeli forces against the Palestinian people. This series of postponements reflects Algeria’s consistent position in favor of the Palestinian cause and its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle.
