The wilaya of Sidi Bel-Abbes will host the 14the Edition of the National Cultural Festival of Raï song, from August 7 to 10, said on Monday the festival commissioner, Houssam Harzallah.
During a press conference, he said that this edition will see the participation of 23 young artists from different wilayas in the country. He stressed that the festival opens more, this year, to young emerging talents, with the aim of instilling a new impetus in this authentic popular art.
The event will also include an exhibition of plastic arts entitled “Zergui Ahmed, an immortal voice in national memory”, conferences on the history and evolution of Raï, under the theme “The history of rai, sheikhs on the international scene”, and eight artistic evenings, distributed among the wilayas of Sidi Bel-Abbes and Oran (four evenings in each wilaya) number of artists to participate.
The commissioner also announced that tributes will be paid to emblematic figures that have contributed to the boom of this musical genre at the national and international level, like the late artist Mohamed Bousmaha.
He said that this edition, which reflects the depth of Algerian cultural identity and contributes to anchor musical culture among young generations, is part of the program of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, aimed at enhancing the artistic heritage, in particular Raï, and to highlight its importance as a national popular musical heritage, while giving a gallery to young votes so that they can express themselves.
The festivities will take place at the outdoor theater Saïm Lakhdar in the city of Sidi Bel-Abbes, in coordination with the local direction of culture and arts, under the patronage of the ministry of tutelage and the wali of the wilaya.
