The journalists of the young independent took part, this Tuesday, August 12, on Tuesday, August 12, in a training session by video conference initiated by the Russian agency Sputnik, devoted to generative artificial intelligence and its role in the creation of written and audiovisual content.
Via the Zoom platform by Viktoria Budanova, head of Sputnik Africa, this session of the Sputnik Pro program, the second of its kind for the benefit of journalists of the independent young, focused on “new trends in the media”, with a central generative AI aspect and its role in the creation of written and audiovisual content. Participants learned to create avatars of TV hosts, reproduce voices and exploit specialized tools to design content assisted by AI.
The trainer illustrated her remarks by concrete examples, including the use of avatars representing real people in television news.
It also alerted to the potential drifts linked to the manipulation of AI in propaganda, citing, as an example, certain practices used by mainstream media media to make false remarks attributed to Russian and African public figures. Technical and critical training, which allowed journalists present to better understand the opportunities and risks of generative AI in the current media landscape.
It should be noted that the journalists of the young independent have already participated in a first workshop, organized on July 15, relating to the theme “Podcasts as a multimedia format”. Hosted by Anthony Lefebvre, correspondent for Sputnik Africa and author of the Podcast Zone of Contact, he explored the possibilities offered by the Podcast as a tool for narration and dissemination of information, by addressing both its technical and editorial aspects.
The two sessions were moderate by Anastasia Alyamovskaya, project manager of the Cooperation Department at the press agency and Radio Sputnik, and began with an intervention by Kamel Mansari, publication director of the independent young person who has emphasized the orientation taken by the daily in the use of new technologies including generative artificial intelligence by counting on serious media. The workshops were concluded with a graduation ceremony issued by Sputnik Pro.
These two complementary training courses have enabled journalists present to strengthen their technical skills while developing a critical look at the use of emerging technologies in the media landscape.
