In its latest assessment, the Port company of Algiers (EPAL) reveals that containerized goods at the level of this port infrastructure displayed growth of 31.69% in the 2nd quarter of the current year. Noting that the overall traffic of goods treated by EPAL reached 2.414 million tonnes in the 2nd quarter of 2025, against 2.011 million tonnes a year earlier, or growth of 20%.
“The tonnage of exported goods increased from 307,823 tonnes between March and June 2024 to 438,668 tonnes over the same period in 2025, an increase of 42.51%”, specifies the same source.
The March-June period 2025, underlined the same source, was also marked by a strong crowd of travelers with a total of 79,356 passengers against 56,737 in the 2nd quarter of 2024, representing an increase of 39.87%. An increase explained, in particular, by the competitive rates offered by new maritime transport companies.
Regarding the port yield, the same source reported a reduction in the stay of the platform ships and the treatment of goods.
“The average living room of ships at the quay fell significantly, going from 4.49 days to the 2nd quarter of 2024 to 3.44 days during the same period of 2025, a decrease of 1.05 days,” added the same source.
