The livestock markets in the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou are now closed. The decision to close taken by the public authorities is justified by the spread of the disease lumpy skin disease Contagious bovine lumpy skin disease is a viral disease affecting only cattle and not transmissible to humans. It is transmitted mainly by vectors (biting insects) and is characterized in particular by fever and nodules of various sizes on the animal’s skin. (DNC) bovine.
Indeed, while five municipalities were affected only a few days ago, namely Tadmaït, Draâ El-Mizan, Mekira, Timizart and Aït-Agouacha, around fifteen municipalities are now affected. This is what Dr Nourredine Yata, first head of veterinary services in the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou, told Le Jeune Indépendant last Thursday.
“In these 15 municipalities affected by contagious bovine nodular skin disease,” our contact said, “our services have also recorded 130 affected cattle and 19 cases of mortality.”
Also, given the advance of this virus transmitting the disease, the only solution deemed effective is the pure and simple closure of livestock markets to prevent the arrival in Tizi Ouzou, from other wilayas, of new bovine heads likely to already be carriers of this transmissible virus.
It is also a matter of preventing affected livestock from leaving Tizi Ouzou for other wilayas. Finally, note that this is not the first time that the livestock markets of Tizi Ouzou have been closed as a health measure.
The penultimate closure, we recall, was justified by the desire to avoid the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.
