The diaspora wants to participate in national development.
Algerian doctors established in several European countries expressed, during a virtual meeting co-chaired by the Secretary of State for the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaïb, and the Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène, their full availability to put their expertise at the service of the development of the national health system. This was indicated this Sunday in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs.
During this meeting, held by videoconference, Mr. Chaïb and Aït Messaoudène recalled the sustained efforts of the State to ensure effective and efficient participation of Algerian skills abroad in the dynamic of national renewal and development, particularly in the field of health.
The two officials stressed that “the government attaches particular importance to the development of Algerian human capital wherever it is located, and works to promote its contribution to the modernization of the country, particularly in vital sectors such as health”. They also noted the importance “of perpetuating this type of consultation, in order to transform cooperation with the medical diaspora into a structured and lasting partnership”.
For their part, Algerian doctors established abroad welcomed the political will of national authorities to strengthen the relationship with expatriate skills and to make them partners in the implementation of public policies. They “reiterated their availability to contribute in a concrete way to the development of the health system, in particular through training, research, technology transfer and participation in national projects to modernize the sector”.
The participants also underlined the importance of the continuity of these meetings which make it possible to exchange directly with the country’s leaders and to propose practical avenues to support the reforms undertaken in the health field. This initiative is part of periodic meetings with members of the national community abroad, intended to promote direct communication between those responsible for the sectors concerned and Algerian experts based abroad. Through this approach, the authorities intend to consolidate the links between the scientific diaspora and national institutions, encouraging regular dialogue around reforms, needs and opportunities for improving the health system.
Thus, through this meeting with doctors from the diaspora, the authorities intend to strengthen the cooperation bridges between Algeria and its skills abroad and sustainably include this interaction in the national strategy for modernization of the health sector. The ministry stressed that this initiative is part of the public authorities’ orientations aimed at fully involving the national community abroad in the dynamic of national renewal. He also announced the continuation of these periodic consultations with other categories of Algerian skills established abroad in various fields, in order to promote their participation in the country’s development efforts.
