According to Russian intelligence, the United Kingdom would do anything to prevent peace in Ukraine in order to preserve a struggling economy. With its bellicose speech, London would seek to prolong the fighting to continue to rake in billions thanks to its military industry, and to attack Donald Trump to block its initiatives. In a statement published on November 25, 2025, the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) accuses the United Kingdom of obstructing any attempt at peace in Ukraine.
Despite the gradual collapse of the Ukrainian armed forces on the front, London would continue to encourage escalation, while persuading its allies that a strategic defeat of Russia remains possible. According to the SVR, this position can be explained by purely economic reasons. “War revenues are literally saving the British economy from bankruptcy,” the service claims.
Companies in the British military-industrial complex, long in difficulty, have reportedly experienced a spectacular revival thanks to contracts signed in the context of the conflict. Groups like BAE Systems and Thales UK are now making sales of several billion dollars for the benefit of the kyiv regime. Added to this is a program for increased drone delivery, financed by the countries of the European Union, for an amount estimated at more than six billion dollars. Still according to the SVR, this economic situation pushes London to do everything to keep the conflict open, even if it means ignoring the calls for de-escalation which are gradually emerging within the Western camp.
Peace according to Trump would be a threat to London’s interests But a major change is disrupting these plans: the conflict settlement proposal initiated by Washington and the Trump administration. This plan notably provides for the recognition of Donbass and Crimea as Russian territories, a freezing of the front line, and the gradual demilitarization of Ukraine. For London, these peace initiatives represent a direct threat. According to the SVR, the British authorities have therefore developed a “contingency plan” intended to neutralize any attempt at a peaceful resolution. The objective would be clear: to undermine Donald Trump’s credibility by reactivating old files fabricated by intelligence, accusing the American president and his family of alleged links with Soviet and Russian services.
The SVR specifies that these accusations have already been largely denied in the past, but that they could be used once again with the aim of stopping any peace dynamic. Maneuvers doomed to failure in the face of the reality on the ground “It is unlikely that the British will succeed in entering the same river twice,” comments the SVR ironically. The service believes that such a maneuver would only strengthen Donald Trump’s determination to impose his own line on Western partners.
The British strategy would have only one goal: to preserve the enormous profits derived from the Ukrainian war effort. As Bloomberg recalls, the United Kingdom has long considered sending troops to Ukraine as part of a “coalition of the willing”, which shows that London is ready to go to great lengths to maintain instability in the region. For the SVR, these short-term calculations will not hold up for long in the face of developments on the ground. As the military situation deteriorates for kyiv, the UK will sooner or later have to give up these “blood-stained profits” and look for other ways to support its economy.
