Numerous fire households affected the wilaya of Béjaïa during the last three days. Consequently, the fire soldiers were strongly asked with their peers of the forest services. A good number of municipalities was affected by this phenomenon which induced a rise in mercury, during the day of Saturday and Friday, especially in the Soummam valley.
A situation that has rekindled the feeling of fear among the Béjaouis, they who have experienced painful episodes due to forest fires in recent few years. The fire fighting plan, developed during the summer season by the authorities which, also called on the mobile columns of the wilayas of Djelfa and Laghouat, seems to be proven so far, since the teams that have been mobilized with their materials during these fires have succeeded in the prowess of considerably limiting the material.
Aside from the plant areas of a few tens of hectares, some fruit trees and brush surfaces that were destroyed at the end, the lights did not do material damage and did not reach the inhabited areas. In this regard, at least 8 forest fires were recorded informed of last week. Fortunately, they were all off in time.
They have, particularly, affected the municipalities of Chemini (Ilmathen), Amizour (Belout), Oued-Gir (Ighzer Ouzarif), Kherrata (Azaghar and the city center), Tala Hamza (Aït Smaïl), Tichy (Aboudaou) and Tifra (Hammam Sillal), Tizi N’Berber (Tamaraset) Not, yet, was determined. Which have, nevertheless destroyed dozens of hectares of plant surfaces and put on permanent alert firefighters and forest agents who mobilized all their operational means (material and human) thus constituting a real front with each operation.
A front that has given fruit since “all the fires were turned off”, according to the Civil Protection Communication Cell of the Wilaya of Béjaïa. The last forest fire to be extinguished was that of Ilmathen vain before the dawn. Many operational teams have been used. These are firefighters affiliated with local units of Chemini, Ouzellaguen, the main unit and the mobile column of Béjaïa, the mobile column of the wilaya of Djelfa, the regional detachment of the wilaya of Béjaïa and the secondary unit of Akfadou.
The latter were greatly supported by air means, including an AT-802 bombardier plane to stop the spread of the flames that were fueled by the wind, especially in the early evening. The fire was extinguished around 3 a.m. and a team was on the scene yesterday morning in order to monitor the rest of the embers so that they were not rekindled by the wind and especially to suffocate them.
As a reminder, a fire was also recorded last Tuesday at a place called Tizrarine, a commune of Amalou in the Akbou region. The firefighters of the Seddouk unit and that of Béni Mâaouche managed to extinguish the blaze before reaching the fruit trees and the dwellings. A few days before, a fire was also turned off in Hammam Sillal, commune of Tifra by the firefighters of Akfadou and the team of the mobile column of the wilaya of Djelfa.
