Participants in a meeting held the day before yesterday in Algiers, on the activity of insurance brokers, highlighted the importance of this activity as a “essential tool” for the development of the Algerian insurance market, in particular through its contribution to the increase in the rate of penetration of insurance services.
In a speech pronounced during this meeting, organized by the Algerian Union of Insurance Brokers (UACA), the president of the Algerian Union of Insurance and Reinsurance companies (UAR), Youcef Benmicia, estimated that the insurance brokers “constitute a pivot link in the process of marketing insurance products alongside insurance companies”.
He stressed that brokers also constitute a locomotive for insurance innovation, through the development of new products and the expansion of the basis of insurable products, noting that their contribution to the turnover of the national insurance market reached 60 billion DA in 2024.
The same official indicated that the insurance market has experienced major transformations, with more than 3,200 distribution agencies currently, including 1,200 direct agencies, in addition to 62 insurance brokers.
Insurance brokers thus constitute one of the main networks on which insurance companies are based for the distribution of their services, helping to energize the market and strengthen the marketing of insurance products through direct contact with customers.
For his part, the president of the UACA, Seghier Lahouari, highlighted in his intervention, the importance of developing the activity of brokers through the focus on digital innovation, financial inclusion and the promotion of savings culture.
He noted that the number of brokers spent in 2025 to 62 operators, against 40 in 2019, while the value of bonuses reached 15 billion DA.
Furthermore, the meeting was punctuated by several interventions of financial experts, which have emphasized the need to develop the insurance sector in Algeria and increase its contribution to gross domestic product (GDP), highlighting the important opportunities it offers in terms of job creation, savings, disasters management and trade facilitation, thus guaranteeing social protection and economic protection.
