The young Algerian gymnast Kaylia Nemour (17 years old), a new world star in the discipline and one of the best of her generation, particularly on the uneven bars, intends to offer Algeria its first medal at the Paris Olympic Games (July 26-August 11, 2024).
The Algerian nugget who managed to win four gold medals in the 2024 World Cup events, dreams of raising the national flag high on Parisian soil by winning an Olympic medal, especially since she will be supported by a large number of Algerian fans present on site. “I am obviously happy to represent my country, Algeria, in such a prestigious event as the Olympic Games.
I have already won titles at the various world championships, which will boost me for the future, for other performances, why not at the Paris-2024 Games”, Kaylia had indicated in her various statements. Kaylia Nemour has proudly been piling up titles for almost a year: African champion in Pretoria, vice-world champion on uneven bars in Antwerp, four gold medals in the World Cup in Baku (uneven bars), Cottbus (uneven bars) and Doha (uneven bars and floor) this year, to name just the best. A great hope for Algerian gymnastics, the young Nemour has above all become one of the very best in the world on uneven bars, allowing her to unpretentiously aim for the gold medal on this apparatus at Paris 2024.
The Algerian’s overall movement is so technically rich that it gives the impression that she is flying between the bars. During the Olympic Games, women’s gymnasts compete in the all-around competition (floor, beam, vault and uneven bars), and the young Algerian has demonstrated through the various international competitions in which she has taken part, that she masters the four apparatus, but it is on the uneven bars that she excels and twirls. “Kaylia has character and ambition. She has easy motor skills and also acrobatic ease. She is convinced that she will have the gold on the bars in Paris. I am not too worried about her motivation, she is well committed (..) she is a fighter.
She knows that she has to stay very focused, she is also aware that everyone is behind her, starting with those closest to her,” said her coach Marc Chirilcenco at the French club Avoine Beaumont Gymnastique. Since she got back on track, after almost two years of convalescence due to an operation on both knees, Kaylia Nemour has gradually forged a place for herself in the world elite, after becoming the African queen of gymnastics. “I have been preparing for all these years to go to the Games and now that I am here, the goal is a medal at the Olympics obviously for me and for Algeria which opened its doors to me and welcomed me with open arms,” said the young Algerian gymnast, adding: “I want to earn my place among the greatest.”
In anticipation of the Parisian jousts, the Algerian African champion has carried out a good preparation, according to the requirements of the discipline which requires intense training sessions, without sparing the effort, but while avoiding injuries, very frequent among high-level athletes. The federation, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has spared no effort to offer the necessary means to the athlete and his coach, in the same way as all the athletes qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris which will have a special cachet and where the medals will be very important and very expensive for the qualified athletes and their staffs.
