Louisa Hanoune, leader of the PT
The Workers’ Party (PT) announced this Saturday the candidacy of its general secretary, Louisa Hanoune, in the early presidential election scheduled for September 7. For the first time in the history of Algeria, two women are candidates in this election. The first to announce her candidacy last March was Zoubida Assoul.
The decision to choose Louisa Hanoune was validated unanimously at the end of the work of the party’s national council, which was held for two days, May 17 and 18, at the level of the National Institute of Study and research centers (INERS), in El-Achour, in Algiers. It was party activist Youcef Taazibt who took the floor to make this announcement, painting a glowing portrait of their SG who, according to his speech, is the only one capable of representing the party.
“Louisa Hanoune is a fighter and activist who is not afraid to defend her homeland. She is faithful and grateful to the achievements of the glorious Revolution.” During this meeting, Ms. Hanoune expressed her commitment to national solutions regarding national problems, reiterating her opposition to foreign interference. “You entrusted me with a great responsibility by asking me to participate in the presidential election. It is a decision that the national council of the Workers’ Party unanimously approved,” she declared, emphasizing “the need to impose Algerian solutions to the problems that concern the country.”
The SG of the PT affirmed that her participation is “a great honor but also a very heavy burden and an immense responsibility in view of current issues”. She added: “We are participating to defend the sustainability and sovereignty of the State in order to restore its strength and splendor relying on the sovereign people. »
Ms. Hanoune revealed that “it is an imperative mandate. This participation is different from previous ones because the next election is of an exceptional nature due to the tense global context.”
Ms. Hanoune also called for an opening of the political and media fields, emphasizing the need for open and transparent democratic debates to allow citizens to make informed choices. She called for socio-economic measures aimed at improving purchasing power and fighting against precariousness.
Among the political party leaders who have already announced their candidacies for the next election, there are Zoubida Assoul, president of the Union for Change and Progress (UCP) and Belkacem Sahli, of the National Republican Union (UNR), who ran as a candidate on behalf of a group of parties called the “Coalition for Stability and Reform”.
