Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir officially assumed command as IDF Chief of Staff, taking over from Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi in a brief handover ceremony at the military’s Kirya headquarters in Tel Aviv.

Amid the ongoing war, the event was scaled down—absent were the usual large crowd, motorcade, and red carpet.

In a further departure from tradition, both Halevi and Zamir wore their standard work uniforms, known as Madei Bet, instead of formal dress uniforms.

The ceremony opened with a solemn moment of silence in honor of fallen IDF soldiers.
