In 2024, the Algerian University is moving towards the modern fourth generation university in “a short time”. The announcement was made at the beginning of this year by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Badari, who spoke during the presentation of a presentation on the ”Dr Moulay Tahar” University of Saida. The minister supervised the inspection of a project of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences in the commune of Aïn Lahdjar with 2,000 teaching places, which will be completed next September. He also announced that the University of Saïda, which has acquired numerous new structures, will be reconverted into a university center par excellence which will allow it to welcome students from the wilayas of El Bayadh and Nâama.
This new structure, work on which was launched at the end of 2018 on an area of 20,420 m2, includes two educational blocks, two lecture halls, a library, a student club and an administrative block. Such information has now become commonplace, we do not even pay attention to it, yet it is significant of the changes brought by Algeria which became independent in July 1962, thanks to the fight of the Algerian people in which students and high school students participated to drive out the French colonialists. In May 1956, when Ugema called on students to join the armed struggle, there was only one university in Algeria, that of Algiers, attended by barely 500 Algerians, out of 5,000 students. Today, the higher education sector is working towards “the digitization of university structures with a view to improving the quality of teaching and raising the level of performance”.
In Saida, the minister inspected the Data and Computing Center which has 14 broadband devices, 17 servers and two switches, knowing that this equipment contributes to strengthening digital communication within the University. The minister also inaugurated a central library at Saida University, equipped with various works and references in all university specialties, before inspecting the digital archive center, which recorded the digitization and storage operation of 5,850 university student files for the years 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. This digital center allows the reception of all university documents and their recording to facilitate the operation of memorization and rapid retrieval. In independent Algeria, the Algerian University, on the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, supports Palestinian students who come from the occupied Palestinian territories.
