⚠️🇺🇸👀😂 Maduro ran out of budget for his defense in the United States.

Nicolás Maduro’s legal team asked a federal judge in New York to force the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to release Venezuelan state funds, arguing that the former leader lacks his own resources to pay for the trial.

Attorney Barry J. Pollack sent a letter on February 20, 2026 to Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein to complain about the blocking of the accounts.

In the court document, the defense argued that the economic sanctions violate the constitutional rights of the defendant.

“Venezuela would do it, and Mr. Maduro cannot pay a lawyer otherwise,” the legal firm justified in the text.

The defenders accused the US agency of sabotaging the process by denying access to the Caribbean nation’s public coffers.

“By not allowing the Venezuelan government to pay for Mr. Maduro’s defense costs, OFAC interferes with Mr. Maduro’s ability to retain a lawyer and, therefore, with his right to a lawyer of his choice under the Sixth Amendment,” the firm claimed in court.
