Death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raïssi

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune sent, yesterday Monday, a message of condolences to the First Vice-President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Mokhber, following the death of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raïssi. “Excellence the First Vice-President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, we have followed, with you, from the beginning, with emotion and concern, the difficult times experienced by the brotherly Iranian people, while awaiting information on the fate of the helicopter carrying the deceased Ebrahim Raïssi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a brother country, and the members of the accompanying delegation, composed of senior officials, and it is with great sorrow and “deep sadness that we learned of the tragic death of our dear brother Ebrahim Raïssi,” we read in the message of condolences.

“We express our deep sympathy and fraternal support to the political leaders, government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a brother country,” wrote the President of the Republic. “In this painful circumstance where the Algerian people sympathize with the pain of their brothers in Iran, I lose, personally, in the leader Ebrahim Raïssi, a brother and a partner with whom I worked to strengthen the bonds of fraternity, of cooperation and solidarity between our two brother countries and peoples, and in favor of the just causes carried by our Islamic Nation,” added the President of the Republic. “In this difficult ordeal, I offer my sincere condolences and deep sympathy to the Government and people of Iran, praying to Allah Almighty to surround the deceased with His Holy Mercy and to provide assistance and comfort to the brotherly Iranian people,” concludes the message from the President of the Republic. Yesterday, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, ordered the initiation of an investigation into the causes of the Iranian President’s helicopter crash, and announced the formation of a technical committee including military and government specialists for this purpose.

According to Iranian television, the helicopter was forced to land due to bad weather conditions and contact with it was lost at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Iranian President’s executive assistant, Mohsen Mansouri. Before the accident, the Iranian President and the delegation accompanying him were visiting Azerbaijan, where Raisi and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev inaugurated on Sunday the ”Qayz Qalasi” dam, built jointly between the two neighboring countries.
