A faulty update on Microsoft Windows systems affected many companies and institutions around the world this Friday, mainly airports.
The outage is linked to a faulty update on Windows systems of an IT solution from the American cybersecurity group CrowdStrike. It is currently being resolved, according to the American giant.
Transport, media, hospitals, financial markets disrupted: the number of companies reporting outages or disruptions has multiplied across the world.
Airlines, airports, banks, media, hospitals and even the organizers of the Paris Olympics are experiencing disruptions on Friday, caused by an update linked to the antivirus offered by the American group CrowdStrike, affecting Windows and a large number of its users.
CrowdStrike announced that the root cause of the outage was “identified” and “being remediated.” And Microsoft says on its website that “the underlying cause of the issue has been corrected and several Microsoft 365 applications and services have returned to full functionality. Residual impact still affects some Microsoft 365 applications and services.”
The New York Stock Exchange ended lower on Friday, after a rotation of portfolios to the detriment of technology, amplified by the giant computer failure that sowed chaos within multiple companies around the world. The Dow Jones index fell 0.93%, the Nasdaq, dominated by technology, lost 0.81% and the S&P 500, which is finishing its worst week since April, fell 0.71%, according to still preliminary results.
All Spanish airports have experienced “disruptions” linked to the computer failure that has affected many sectors around the world, according to the manager Aena, which however reported a near return to normal on Friday afternoon.
According to the semi-public company, this mainly resulted in delays. But around a hundred flights were also cancelled by airlines, which were also affected by this computer failure, the company said.
The problem that caused the computer outage that paralyzed many companies around the world on Friday, as well as the organizers of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, has been “identified” and “being corrected,” announced the head of Crowdstrike, an American cybersecurity group.
