For reinforced security, digitized services and improved catering, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, led a working meeting at the headquarters of the ministry, with a view to putting double bites to offer students a back -to -school school year. This was indicated on Monday a statement from the ministry on Monday.

More than a month from the start of the academic year, Mr. Baddari assured the presidency of a meeting, in the presence of ministerial executives and representatives of the National Office of University Works. This meeting, held on Sunday evening, is part of the last preparations for a “fluid” recovery of the courses, which will start on September 13 for all cycles and sectors. At the heart of the discussions, the improvement of university services, pillars of the student daily life, the objective being to ensure that nearly two million students benefit from the best possible conditions in terms of housing, catering and transport throughout the territory.

As a reminder, the minister said in May that sustained efforts have already been made since 2022 to secure university cities, in particular by installing 7,082 surveillance cameras in 421 residences. In terms of infrastructure, two large rehabilitation programs have been started. In total, 3 billion dinars in 2023 were dedicated to the renovation of 45 residences in 31 wilayas, followed in 2024 from another 4 billion dinars covering 34 residences in 24 wilayas. In parallel, a major project provides for the creation of 73,000 additional beds, responding to the continuous growth of the university population, according to information provided by the ministry.

Another priority displayed is the quality of meals served in the country’s 514 university restaurants. With a capacity of 365,000 meals a day, according to data last January, the system was recently reinforced by the implementation of an electronic portfolio. A major advance in the digitization of the catering service. This initiative aims to simplify the management of meal tickets and strengthen transparency.

On the mobility side, the ministry relies on technological innovation. The launch of the “Hafilati” application, allowing students to follow the routes of buses in real time, aligns with this dynamic. At the same time, students benefit from reduced rates for access to the tram and metro, in particular thanks to specific subscriptions and agreements with theOnou National Office of University Works (National Office of University Works) and SETRAM (Tramways and metro operating company).

It should be noted that at this occasion, the Minister announced that this ministerial meeting would be followed by similar meetings in other university cities, in order to ensure a well organized school year throughout the national territory.

At a time when higher education is transformed at a dizzying speed, these efforts, according to the ministry, testify to the desire to modernize the Algerian University, both in terms of logistically and technologically, in accordance with the instructions of Mr. Baddari, which announced that the start of the 2025/2026 back to school thus promised to be more connected, safer and more comfortable than ever.
