Better support.
The legalization cells for the subscription forms of individual signatures of candidates for the presidential election of September 7 will be open until midnight. This was indicated on Monday by the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) in a press release.
The facilitation has been effective since Monday and will continue until tomorrow, according to ANIE, which explains that it is to better support people wishing to legalize individual signature subscription forms within the remaining period.
The Authority’s press release specifies that this decision was taken “as part of facilitating the operation of legalizing individual signature subscription forms for the benefit of candidates for the presidential election of September 7, 2024, in anticipation of the closing of this operation, scheduled for July 18, in accordance with the provisions of Article 252 of Ordinance 21-01 of March 10, 2021 relating to the organic law relating to the electoral system, amended and supplemented.”
These facilities come at a crucial moment in the signature collection process, with only a few hours left before the sponsorship operation closes.
It is worth noting that the inability to reach the threshold of signatures required by law was the main reason why several candidates among the 35 announced dropped out of the presidential race. The most spectacular was the decision of the Secretary General of the Workers’ Party, Louisa Hanoune. The latter gave up running, unable to obtain the sufficient number of signatures from local elected officials.
Other independent candidates or party leaders have come up against this barrier of sponsorships, which number 50,000, spread over 29 wilayas (with a minimum of 1,200 per wilaya). It is also expected that around thirty applicants who have withdrawn the ANIE forms will not be able to meet this legal requirement.
Currently, on this point, some do not want to communicate or give details to their activists or sympathizers. They continue to crisscross the regions of the country and organize meetings, like Belkacem Sahli, who does not despair of gathering the famous signatures that would open the doors of the electoral campaign to him.
As a reminder, only two parties managed, thanks to their elected representatives in the APC and APW, to complete the signature collection operation. These are the MSP and the FFS, whose leaders are candidates.
Finally, it should be noted that the big guns, such as the FLN and the RND, strongly support the candidacy of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. These two parties have practically completed the signature collection operation and are preparing to submit the file to the candidate’s office.
