The flash caused by a meteor was visible in several regions and intrigued neitzens due to the strong bluish-green color emitted by the space rock.
➡️ Several videos were published on social media recording the flash that transformed Portuguese night into day for an instant. The meteor was visible just before midnight, and could be seen in several regions of the country, such as Porto, Algarve and Miranda do Douro, as well as other parts of the Iberian Peninsula.
➡️ Some common colors of meteors are: yellowish-orange (sodium), yellow (iron), blue-green (magnesium), violet (calcium) and red (atmospheric nitrogen and oxygen).
➡️ The type of meteorite known to contain magnesium are “pallasites”, which contain large olive-green crystals that are a form of magnesium-iron silicate called olivine, explains the specialized portal Space.com.
