Onze communes alimentées – Le Jeune Indépendant


Eleven municipalities are now powered by drinking water produced by the seawater desalination station located on the west coast of Béjaïa, at the place of Tighremet. This was announced by the Algerian waters of the wilaya of Béjaïa in a press release.

The eleven municipalities concerned are Semaoune, Feraoune, Tifra, Taourit-Ighil, Adekar, Amizour, Barbacha, Oued-Ghir, the urban pole Ighzer-Ouzarif, Béni Djéllil and finally the town of Béjaïa, according to the same source.

“This is a first step since other municipalities will also be affected in a second step,” says the same source. A news that has not gone unnoticed among the Béjaouis who expressed a large “phew” of relief and especially among the inhabitants of the municipalities benefiting from this program.

It also aroused great hope among the populations of other municipalities, especially those of Haute Soummam, such as Tazmalt where drinking water flows only 5 to 6 hours per week in the taps and also the municipalities of Béni M’likèche, Ighil-Ali, Aït R’zine, Chellata and Ighram which are the poor parents of the region in the matter, despite certain effort These municipalities.

According to the same source, “the start of the drinking water supply operation from the Tighremet seawater desalination station is part of the realization of the safety program to strengthen drinking water, the availability of this vital commodity and the improvement of the public service relating to the supply of households with drinking water”.

For ADE “the aim of this strategic project is to increase the quantities of water spread over homes, improve the public service in drinking water, meet the demand of this vital commodity which is growing and guarantee high quality water, according to the required standards”.

The ADE de Béjaïa believes, moreover, that “the commissioning of the Tightremt desalination station, with a capacity of 300,000 m3, is a very important step in the daily improvement of the life of citizens and the consecration of the right to strengthening in drinking water and a diet regularly and just”.

Toudja seawater desalination station is currently running with a relatively powerful diet which is 180,000 m3/day. It started with a production of 30,000 m3/day to switch to 50,000 m3/day before quickly reaching 90,000 m3/day to then achieve 120,000 m3/day and 150,000 m3/day to reach 180,000 m3/day.

This quantity should be gradually noted in the coming days and reach its real capacity later to gradually feed the wilaya of Bouira with 40,000 m3/day, the wilaya of Sétif with 30,000 m3/day and Bordi Bou Arréridj with a quantity of 30,000 m3/day.
