Oran ressuscite ses écrans – Le Jeune Indépendant


After a six-year break, the Oran International Arab Film Festival (FIFAO) is making a comeback from October 4 to 10 for its 12th edition. Under the direction of artist and actor Abdelkader Djeriou, this new edition promises to be a rich and unforgettable experience for film buffs in the region and the Arab world, said a press release from the organizers.

Abdelkader Djeriou declared that “this edition will be marked by renewed energy, thanks to a carefully developed program and the implementation of new initiatives to support the film industry in Algeria and the Arab world.” According to him, this cinematographic event thus asserts itself as a major player, while highlighting the tourist charm of Oran, in close collaboration with the local authorities.

He also underlined the use of a technical and administrative team of experts, as well as a prestigious advisory committee, made up of cinema experts and professionals. The festival will highlight the latest productions in Arab cinema, with a selection of feature films, short films and documentaries in competition. Conferences, discussions and workshops will also be organized, allowing industry professionals and film enthusiasts to meet and exchange ideas.

FIFAO aims to promote Arab cinema and introduce it to the public. The festival is also an important platform for Arab filmmakers, allowing them to present their films to a jury of experts. The return of FIFAO is excellent news for the city of Oran, which is proud of its rich cinematographic culture. Registrations for the various festival competitions will be open very soon. A competition will also be organized for the creation of the official poster for the festival, said the same source.

Since its creation in 2007, the Oran International Arab Film Festival has established itself as a major showcase of Arab cinema, combining an international dimension through its screenings, conferences, discussions and workshops, in the enchanting setting of the coastal city. from Oran.

The last edition, organized in 2018, saw the participation of 38 films from 12 Arab countries, including 10 feature films, 14 short films and 14 documentaries, under the slogan “Le vivre-ensembles”.

Several tributes were paid to personalities of Arab cinema, notably to the Algerian director Ahmed Rachedi and the Egyptian actress Yousra.

Abdelkader Djeriou was appointed, in March 2023, commissioner of the Oran International Arab Film Festival, in place of Brahim Seddiki. With a doctorate in dramatic arts, he took his first steps on the stage of the regional theater of Sidi Bel Abbès.

First an extra, he then accessed more important roles, notably in the film “Harraga blues” by the late director Moussa Haddad. His talent and versatility allow him to take on notable roles, both in cinema and on television.
