The Great Mosque of Algiers organized on Tuesday a scientific conference on the scientific and religious concepts of the healthy soul. The symposium emphasized that the Islamic view of the soul does not oppose science, but complements it in terms of meaning. At the opening of this conference, organized under the slogan “Towards a healthy soul… with a scientific vision and an Islamic identity”, the dean of the University of Algiers, Sheikh Muhammad al-Mamun al-Qasimi al-Husayni, explained that “the Islamic vision of the soul is not the opposite of knowledge, but rather a complement of meaning, because it calls for a precise understanding of the soul and reminds us that if knowledge is separated from faith, it turns into knowledge without direction, and that if faith is separated from knowledge, it slides into unconscious emotion. » It is on the basis of this balance that “the normal, learned, faithful, hardworking and confident man is born”, as the dean of the University of Algiers underlined, stressing that “the normal soul is the one which resides in truth and guidance and does not submit to whims and desires”. In this context, Sheikh Al Qasimi noted that “psychiatry examines the causes of stress in hormonal and neurotransmitter circuits, while the Quran teaches us that the origin of anxiety is deeper than the body” and that “its healing begins by (…) correcting one’s vision of the universe and life. »
