Plus de 10 millions de passagers attendus pour 2024

More than 10 million passengers expected by 2024

Algiers International Airport

Passenger traffic at Algiers International Airport is expected to see a higher increase this year than previously forecast. This increase is motivated, according to its CEO
Mokhtar Said Mediouni, through various promotional offers launched by the national pavilion.
“With the formulas launched by Air Algérie recently like ”Osra”, in addition to the launch of the Algiers hub which made Algiers international airport a regional transit point for certain lines between Asia and Europe, we expect 10 million passengers this year, or even more,” he added during his visit to the daily forum El Moudjahid.
Regarding his commitments to improve airport services, Mr. Mediouni said that the airport infrastructure will see, in the short term, a significant increase in its capacities thanks to the future terminal (East Terminal) which is currently being launched. An infrastructure that is added to the three existing terminals, namely Terminal 1 reserved for domestic flights, 2 housing charter and Umrah flights and the West Terminal reserved for international flights.
“This new terminal, whose equipment and infrastructure will be at the cutting edge of technology, should be launched in 2025,” he added.
Added to this are various services introduced recently, including the organization of parking, better layout of waiting areas, the opening of VIP rooms and also the recent opening of a library, the speaker continued.
Asked, on the other hand, about the Hadj operation and the summer season, the CEO of the Algiers Airport Services and Infrastructure Management Company (Sgsia) assured that all “proactive measures” were taken at the establishment level in order to manage the large flow of travelers and hadjis. He noted, in this context, that “a record processing of a plane with 260 hadjis on board was recorded and which was processed in only 33 minutes, with all formalities completed.”
To carry out this same operation, young seasonal workers have been recruited, in particular for the orientation of travelers, as well as people with reduced mobility to whom special attention is now paid by the airport staff.
On the equipment side, Mr. Mediouni announced a joint project under which the National Company for the Construction of Railway Materials and Equipment (Ferrovial) will supply various types of trolleys to the SGSIA for its baggage handling operation needs, in particular, recalling that the rolling stock currently in service is imported.
He also highlighted the importance of the recent agreements signed between the company and several university establishments through the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to acquire modern technical and technological services and solutions for the benefit of the airport.
These agreements, he said, “should have a positive impact on the management of airport infrastructure”, since they will allow the introduction of artificial intelligence applications, thus providing greater efficiency and speed to airport services.
In addition, he added, the company will launch, in a week, an application that will be a window of information and interaction on the services offered by the SGSIA, including flight schedules and available means of transport.
