In anticipation of Aid El-Adha

More than 2,500 veterinarians, private and public, will be mobilized to control sales and slaughter operations at the national level, as part of the veterinary health supervision mechanism in anticipation of Eid El-Adha, revealed , yesterday Tuesday in Algiers, Leila Ramdani, deputy director in charge of animal health at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
“The ministry has mobilized, in anticipation of Aid El-Adha, more than 2,500 private and public veterinarians to ensure the health of livestock at the various authorized sales points and approved slaughterhouses in addition to the mobilization of mobile teams which will crisscross the neighborhoods,” she said. Stressing, in passing, the importance of raising awareness among citizens and directing them to the points of presence of veterinarians with a view to consulting them in the event of health doubts.
Speaking on the airwaves of Channel I of the National Radio where she was the guest of the program ”La matinale”, Leila Ramdani indicated that the veterinarians concerned will keep watch throughout the days preceding this celebration to ensure compliance with hygiene, prevention and veterinary health conditions, through support for breeders while ensuring that they hold veterinary certificates. These same veterinarians, she continued, will have to raise awareness among citizens of the importance of applying the necessary measures to avoid any possible case of hydatid cyst or other diseases affecting livestock. “This operation will continue throughout the days of this celebration thanks to the commitment of veterinarians to the permanence in addition to the opening of all slaughter structures to welcome citizens wishing to slaughter their sheep in sanitary conditions”, she observed.
The supervision, further indicated the deputy director in charge of animal health at the Ministry of Agriculture, works to raise citizens’ awareness of respect for preventive measures and hygiene rules during and after the completion of the slaughter rite. . Recalling, on the occasion, the provision of more than 360 slaughterhouses, calling on citizens to go to approved slaughterhouses for sacrifice in order to maintain the cleanliness of the environment and ensure veterinary medical control.
Finally, the same official called on citizens who perform the ritual of sacrifice on the occasion of Eid El-Adha, to respect certain measures to avoid any risk of contamination with hydatid cyst. “The hydatid cyst, she said, is endemic in our country and constitutes a public health problem. This disease, which is asymptomatic at its onset, is most often only diagnosed at the complication stage (appearance of cysts in the organs) and then requires surgical intervention, often heavy and complex.
