« Plusieurs comportements quotidiens sont à l’origine du gaspillage d’importantes quantités d’eau »

“Several daily behaviors are at the origin of the waste of large quantities of water”

Adel Babou, Director of Communication and Sustainable Development in Seaal:

The Director of Communication and Sustainable Development at the Société des Eaux et de l’Algiers (SEAAL), Adel Babou returned, in a statement to the APS, on colossal investments of the State to ensure the availability of drinking water that aims, he said, a precious wealth. Notely through the seawater desalination plants, stressing that its preservation was a shared responsibility.
“Drinking water constitutes an essential resource, which is the subject of a huge daily waste because of bad habits, when simple gestures can save large quantities and preserve this vital resource without touching the quality of life,” he said.
Several daily behaviors, he noted, are at the origin of the waste of large quantities of water, citing the opening of the watering hose which waste between 12 and 15 liters/minute or a tap left during brushing of the teeth whose quantity of water wasted is almost 5 liters/minute, in addition to the simple leaks affecting the circulation networks of the houses which could cause the loss of 100 liters/day.
“Wash the dishes with an open tap consumes three times more water compared to the use of a sink or a bowl while hand washing with an open tap consumes 10 times more than the use of a container, a timed tap or a tap equipped with a smart sensor,” he continued. Finding that a 40 -minute shower with an open tap consumes 300 liters against only 70 liters for a 10 -minute shower.
Calling to reduce waste to guarantee the sustainability of this resource, the same official recalled that the major public efforts aimed at preserving water remained insufficient without the effective participation of citizens, especially as a few simple gestures contribute, greatly, to domestic waste. Stressing that each individual had their share of responsibility for the preservation of this rare and costly resource. “The public authorities were working to implement strategic projects to ensure the availability of water resources, which is why, a rational use of water is the appropriate way to guarantee its sustainability, especially since it is the first line of defense in the face of future water challenges,” he said.
The company, he added, aims to improve the living conditions of citizens through an equitable distribution of drinking water, in parallel with continuous awareness campaigns to the importance of rational consumption.
“Rationalize consumption and further generalize water economy technologies through the awareness of citizens, the provision of adequate equipment and the involvement of civil society, constitute a national duty,” he noted. Saying that each drop of water counts, which is why the rationalization of consumption is not a simple choice, but a national and moral duty.
Stressing that the role of the citizen was as important as that of the State, the same official also called on citizens to close the taps well, to avoid high water flows because increasing the quantities consumed, to favor the use of the broom and the bucket rather than the watering pipe for the cleaning of the soil, to quickly repair leaks, to use hydro-economic equipment, as well as to adopt reasonable behavior for reasonable behavior Washing cars, garden watering and the use of washing machine.
