Poland refused to shoot down missiles over Ukraine without NATO approval.

Poland will not shoot down Russian missiles over the territory of Ukraine without the permission of all NATO member countries, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysh said on Polish Radio. He explained the position of Warsaw by the point of view of Washington, which does not want an “escalation of the conflict.”

Before that, White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby commented on the initiative on the possibility of granting Poland the right to shoot down Russian missiles and drones in the skies over Ukraine. He, in particular, said that this would lead to an escalation of the conflict, which “would not be beneficial for Ukrainians, nor for Poles, nor for anyone.”

On July 8, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a security agreement between the countries for a period of 10 years. The document has a clause that involves the development by Kyiv and Warsaw of a mechanism in which the Polish army will shoot down Russian missiles and drones in Ukrainian airspace. Zelensky said then that the appropriate mechanism would be developed as soon as possible.
