The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youcef Cherfa, laid, last Thursday in Guelma, the first stone of the project to build a grain silo with a capacity of one million quintals in the pilot farm “Mekhanecha Nafaa”.
In the commune of Boumahra Ahmed (10 km east of Guelma). On site, the minister, accompanied by local authorities, emphasized the importance of this equipment planned as part of the National Plan for the Development of Strategic Crops, which includes the construction of 30 silos and 350 local cereal storage centers across the country, according to APS.
After receiving a technical presentation on this strategic structure with a capacity of 1 million quintals planned on a 5-hectare site, Mr. Cherfa urged those responsible for the project to “complete it within the deadline set at 33 months”, noting that “once operational, this silo will contribute to the development of strategic crops and increase the storage capacity of cereals in the wilaya”. The minister recalled the decisions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune taken during the last council of ministers and relating to work over the next three years to extend the cultivated areas in the far South to 500,000 hectares and increase the average yield per hectare to more than 55 quintals. In the commune of Belkheir, Mr. Cherfa inspected the project to build a steel silo with a capacity of 200,000 quintals, the progress rate of which has reached 95%. n
