President Tebboune’s appeal to young people and students
The choice by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of the scientific and technological center of the new city of Sidi Abdellah (Algiers), to chair the commemorative ceremony of the National Student Day, coinciding with May 19 of each year. is significant of the direction taken by higher education in Algeria: towards science and edification. The scientific building, inaugurated on this occasion by President Tebboune, is highly symbolic of the progress made by the student community since it became involved, 68 years ago, in resistance and liberation, at the call of Ugema on May 19, 1956. It is sufficient to specify that the scientific and technological center of the new city of Sidi Abdellah has 5 national higher schools providing training in different scientific specialties including mathematics, cyber security and Intelligence artificial.
The presence at the ceremony of senior State officials, members of the Government and heads of national institutions and organizations, as well as representatives of the student and university family, showed the importance given to the event .
The President of the Republic, accompanied by senior state officials, visited the National Higher School of Artificial Intelligence and the National Higher School of Mathematics where he assured the students of the support and support of the State, before going to an exhibition dedicated to the inventions and projects carried out by the students, particularly in the field of industrial electricity, agriculture and medicine.
The President of the Republic welcomed the structures contained in this Pole surrounded by a new town having all the essential structures and amenities required by modern new towns, namely housing complexes, modern technological networks , service companies and commercial spaces.
President Tebboune noted that the figures recorded in the sector of higher education and scientific research constituted proof that Algeria had taken gigantic steps in this area. He recalled that Algeria had a minimal number of students following independence, with higher education concentrated in Algiers, the President of the Republic indicated that “our country today has 115 university establishments and has 1,650,000 students, supervised by 72,500 teachers and researchers, in addition to 30 scientific research centers for 2,250 researchers. President Tebboune called on young people and students to continue walking on the path of progress and development to elevate Algeria to the rank of developed countries, in terms of scientific research which should be used wisely in the medical, economic and agricultural fields. The ability of students to acquire sciences and knowledge, and to master modern technologies, reflects the State’s commitment to taking charge of the education system, training and teaching in general, a- he added.
Emphasizing the importance of “raising Algeria to the rank of developed countries in the field of science and technology”, the President of the Republic expressed the wish to see the National Higher Schools “outstanding in Africa and in the Arab world, constitute a new beginning. Welcoming “the fervor of young Algerians in protecting the country against cyber attacks”, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed that Algeria “will know, thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the consciousness of its young people, a start with a new lease of life, capable of raising the Fatherland to the highest levels.” The President of the Republic also recalled the sacrifices of Algerian students. On May 19, 1956, “an elite of students of the caliber of the two martyrs, Taleb Abderrahmane and Amara Rachid, and of the stature of Mohamed Seddik Benyahia and Belaid Abdessalam and many others who are no longer in this world – peace to their souls and long life to those still alive – and all those who campaigned under the banner of the General Union of Algerian Muslim Students chose to join the blessed Revolution,” he added.
