In order to prepare its teams to obtain the urban search and rescue certification (MUSAR in English), the Civil Protection Directorate of Médéa organized, last Wednesday, a coordination meeting at the headquarters of the specialized unit of Ouzera, under the supervision of the commander, Youcef Kares, platoon leader.
The MUSAR module is deployed in urban search and rescue operations following the occurrence of a risk linked to an earthquake, landslide or explosion, by using specialized equipment to “locate and free people buried under rubble”.
According to the publication on its official page, the management of Civil Protection of Medea indicated that the meeting focused on several points related to the deployment of intervention operations in urban search and rescue, the determination of missions, the side relating to training in its theoretical and practical aspects in accordance with a specific program.
The training program is to enable the MUSAR module to carry out search and rescue operations using specialized equipment such as telescopic cameras capable of viewing the interior of damaged infrastructure (tunnels and collapsed buildings) and listening devices to detect sounds under the debris. It can also call on rescue dogs to search the rubble.
