près de 80 % des répondants du monde entier estiment que les États-Unis sont la seule « superpuissance sanctionnante » du monde – Le Jeune Indépendant

The United States has once again used the tool of sanctions to protest the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and others. The United States’ action has attracted widespread criticism from global public opinion.

According to a survey launched by CGTN among Internet users around the world, 90.1% of respondents believed that American sanctions have no legitimacy and criticized them for their lack of respect for organizations and the international orders.

In fact, this is not the first time the United States has attempted to impose sanctions on the ICC. In 2020, then-President Donald Trump issued an executive order announcing that the United States would impose sanctions on ICC officials for their involvement in the investigation into U.S. conduct under the war in Afghanistan. The poll found that 85.2 percent of respondents worldwide believe that the United States’ abusive sanctions against other countries and international organizations have seriously undermined the multilateralist international order centered on the UN.

Since 1950, the United States has held first place in the world when it comes to sanctions. Data released last year by the US Treasury Department shows that the United States has sanctioned more than 20 countries.

In the survey, 78.9% of respondents said they were shocked by this data and believed that the United States is the only “sanctioning superpower” in the world. However, “American sanctions” are not authorized by any international organization or by international law. The United States places its domestic law above international law.

To this end, 86.1% of respondents emphasized that unilateral sanctions have become a tool allowing the United States to maintain its global hegemony, neutralize its competitors, interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and even to overthrow their regimes through subversion. A netizen replied: “Some countries have a habit of imposing sanctions on other countries.

They think they have the truth and behave as if they were magistrates and jury. »

At the same time, the economies of sanctioned countries suffer from stagnation and populations suffer. The survey found that 93% of respondents were deeply concerned about the serious humanitarian crisis caused by “US sanctions.” An Internet user sagaciously pointed out: “The abuse of sanctions is theft and harm to people.”
The poll was published on CGTN’s English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian platforms, and more than 15,000 people voted within 24 hours.
