With a view to stimulating technological entrepreneurship in the fields of agriculture, agri-food and agri-food processing, the national agricultural technology competition “AgriTech Challenge 2024” was launched last Monday in Algiers.
This initiative, which is part of the program for the development of agricultural innovation in Algeria (InnovAgro), runs from June 3 to July 27, 2024. This was indicated in a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture. Knowledge economy, start-ups and SMEs.
This competition is organized under the patronage of the Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and SMEs, Yassine El-Mahdi Oualid, as well as the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youcef Chorfa, who chaired the competition launch ceremony.
AgriTech Challenge 2024 is aimed at project leaders who develop innovative solutions (products, services, consulting services, prototypes, etc.) in four key areas, namely the traceability of agricultural and food products, including the integration of digitalization and the use of Blockchain technology; the fight against phytopathies, in particular the rationalization of the use of chemical treatments of crops, and the development of disease-resistant crops, according to the Ministry of the Knowledge Economy and Start-ups.
It is also the field of irrigation management and agriculture, using the analysis of massive data for agricultural planning and the use of innovative techniques in this sense, in more in the field of soilless agriculture or hydroponics to combat drought and guarantee precise management of water resources.
According to the same source, selected project leaders will participate in intensive training from July 6 to 8, 2024 to develop their solutions, with additional support and supervision over two consecutive weeks, from July 13 to 26, 2024, through virtual training. and face-to-face sessions led by experts.
At the end of the program, participants will present their solutions to a jury of experts to select 4 winners who will benefit from 5 days of national or international training as part of the InnovAgro program.
