More than 300 participants in an anti-war demonstration calling for an end to the war between Israel and the Hamas group have been detained in Washington. Some people entered the Capitol building during the rally.

On 18 October, hundreds gathered around and inside the Capitol complex, calling for an end to the war between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip. Additional law enforcement officers from other districts were transferred to the Capitol because of the protest.

A spokesman for the Capitol Police said that about 300 protesters had been detained in the Capitol complex.

Some demonstrators, coordinated by the left-wing Jewish group Jewish Voice for Peace, entered the Cannon House office building through various entrances and gathered inside the rotunda.
The police explained that the protesters, like the public, were allowed to enter the Capitol complex, and that they would only be in trouble if they were disorderly.

A similar demonstration occurred near the White House earlier this week, where dozens of protesters were detained.
