Réhabilitation et extension du barrage vert à Médéa – Le Jeune Indépendant


Among the solutions recommended to deal with the phenomenon of desertification, that relating to the rehabilitation and extension of the part of the green dam area covering 9 municipalities, including 38,500 inhabitants and extending over an area of ​​84 589 ha located in the steppe strip of the territory of the wilaya of Médéa. This was announced by Wali Djahid Mous, on the occasion of the celebration of World Environment Day.

The strategy for rehabilitating territories threatened by desertification and anthropogenic actions was thus highlighted during the seminar organized under the leadership of the environmental department of the wilaya of Médéa on the theme chosen by the UN for this year. , namely “Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience at the heart of attention”.

Hosted by the Specialized Technological Institute for Training in Polyculture of Médéa, the seminar, in which the agricultural services department, the water resources department, the Forest Conservation department, associations active in the environmental field as well as as members of civil society and representatives of different agricultural sectors, was an opportunity to highlight the need for united action by all for the preservation of the environment and the rehabilitation of rural territories.

Thus, emphasis was placed on the component relating to measures to combat soil degradation through soil restoration as well as through the preservation of water resources and forests, respect for ecosystems and biodiversity as responses. to the challenges of combating climate change and reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

He stressed that this is about protecting the livelihoods of populations dependent on ecosystems for their food and economic resources and that land restoration will result in the restoration of economies impacted by land degradation and loss of land. biodiversity, factors threatening the food security of residents of degraded areas.

The strategy to combat desertification, extending until 2035, has planned an action plan for the extension towards the forest domain, the dune domain, the green road strips and the immense agropastoral domain, including several operations affecting the steppe strip of the wilaya of Médéa, where significant areas located in the daïra of Aïn Boucif (120 km southeast of the capital of the wilaya) were integrated into the program to build the green dam.

Among the actions launched as part of the investment programs, actions to promote forest heritage and rural development, rural employment, various plantations, via projects for the capture and development of water sources, construction of 100 m water reservoirs3 each, fruit and forest plantations including cypress, Aleppo pine, Atriplex, forage plants and dune fixation plants.
