For the start of the school year 2025-2026, scheduled for Sunday, September 21, the education departments in several regions of the country, notably that of the East of Algeria, have sent internal memos to schools. These correspondence aim to recall the rules of conduct and appearance that students must strictly observe from the first day of class.
This initiative is part of a desire to preserve order and discipline within establishments while reaffirming the attachment of the Algerian school to the moral and cultural values of the country.
According to the directives transmitted by the Eastern Education Directorate, students are now prohibited from accessing the school enclosure without carrying aprons or with an outfit considered inadequate. The managers of the establishments are invited to be rigorous by prohibiting entry to students dressed in short or torn pants, carrying sandals or flip -flops, or sporting extravagant hairstyles, deemed not in accordance with the educational environment. These measures, although having already existed in previous regulations, are the subject of a reminder here to avoid any drift when returning to class.
Girls students are also affected by a set of specific recommendations. They are notably asked to avoid any form of unsuitable holding, such as tight or transparent clothes, but also not to make up, not wearing detached hair, and avoiding long or artificial nails. These instructions aim, according to management, to preserve a climate of mutual respect, to avoid unnecessary distractions and to maintain the moral framework specific to an educational institution. This is a clear message sent to families, calling them to play their role in supporting children for a disciplined school year and in accordance with expectations.
The management also recalls that these rules are registered in the internal regulations of each establishment, an official document to which each student undertakes to comply when registering. These are therefore not new restrictions, but a rigorous application of texts already in force, with the aim of ensuring coherence between school education and the fundamental values of Algerian society, in particular those relating to modesty, self -compliance and others, and to adherence to civic behavior within public establishments.
In addition, inspectors, school heads and educational supervisors are called upon to raise awareness of the students and their parents again on these requirements from the first days of the start of the school year. Clear, educational but firm communication must be set up to recall that school is a place of learning, respect and discipline, and not an exhibition space for clothing trends or behaviors unsuitable for the school environment.
This approach is also part of a broader social context, marked by rapid cultural changes, especially among young people, exposed to the modes and influences of social networks. Faced with this, the educational institution is an educational rampart, taking care to preserve traditional landmarks and values of moderation, ethics and national identity.
In short, this return to school promises to be under the sign of the recall to order, with a strong message sent to the whole educational community: that of making school a protected, respectful, and faithful space for the moral and cultural foundations of Algeria. Education departments therefore call for collective responsibility, that of students, teachers, school leaders and families, to guarantee a peaceful, serious and in accordance with the noble vocation of the school.
